Rev. Doctor Elden Heyward
Rev Dr. Elden Heyward began his education at Jane Edwards Elementary School on Edisto Island, SC. He attended Baptist Hill High School on Younges Island, SC. Upon completion at Brooklyn Tech in Brooklyn, NY, he enlisted in the US Army at which time he attended NCO School in Seattle, WA. He also taught as an instructor at Fort Gordon in Gordon, GA. After leaving the army as a Vietnam Veteran, Rev. Heyward met, fell in love with, and married Quintella Smalls on October 23, 1971. Rev. Heyward served as a part of the Deacon ministry at Lowly Nazarene Baptist Church in Bronx, NY from 1979 to 1982.
Rev Heyward later served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry at Praise Temple Baptist Church in Bronx, NY from 1982 to 1988. He served on the Deacon Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church on James Island, SC from 1989 to 1992. In 1992, Rev. Heyward joined Ferry Field Baptist Church on Johns Island, SC as a Deacon. After being chosen to walk in the Ministry, he gave his initial sermon in April 1995. In that year, he was ordained as a Reverend. He graduated from Morris College Extension, N. Charleston, SC in 1996 as the Class President.
In 1997, God saw fit to place Rev. Elden Heyward as the under Sheppard of Union Baptist Church, N. Charleston, SC. In 2003, Rev. Heyward received his Bachelors of Arts and Masters in Christian Education. In 2004, he received the prestigious Doctoral degree in Christian Education. Rev. Dr. Elden Heyward is an adoring son, a caring brother, a devoted husband, and a loving father of three, but most importantly, he is a confirmed man of God, and a loving father of three, but most importantly he his a confirmed man of God.
Rev Debra Stevens
Reverend Debra L. Stevens was born and raised in Charleston, SC. She is a graduate of Bonds Wilson High School Class of 198. She attended NCCU in Durham, NC, the College of Charleston and graduated from Trident Technical College with a degree in Pharmacy Technician.
In 2001, Debra Stevens heard God?s voice calling out to her and as an obedient child, she answered and obeyed. She was licensed to the ministry in Jan 2002 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Elden Heyward. She later graduated from Morris College Ministerial Extension School Class of 2004. As a member of Union Baptist Church, she is the Director of the Woman?s Outreach ministry, director of the Food Bank ministry and a Teen Church School Teacher.
In 2015 She completed her studies and was ordained as Union's first female pastor.
Minister Stevens is currently employed at the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. She is a working mother with three boys, dedicated wife of over seventeen years to Mr. Dwayne Stevens Sr.; and a faithful servant willing to be used by God?s Glory. Her favorite scripture comes from 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Minister Frank Manigault was born in Charleston, SC. He graduated from Chicora High School in 1979. He attended SC State and graduated in 1984 where he received the BA in Economics. He received a certificate in public speaking from Dale Carnegie in 2000. He developed a thirst for righteousness and attended The Sure Foundation Theological Institute where he received a Bachelor of Church Ministry in 2003.
Minister Manigualt has been a member of Union Baptist Church since 1984. He is the husband to Mrs. Edith "Cricket" Manigault for over seventeen years. He became a deacon in 2000 and received his ministerial license in 2004 both from Rev. Dr. Elden Heyward. He is currently attending Morris College Theological Seminary, graduation pending in April 2006.
Minister Manigault is also a member of the North Charleston Council for Community Development. In his spare time he enjoys spending quality time with his family, reading, witnessing for God, and playing chess. His favorite Bible Verse is Philippians 4:8
Minister Jennie Bennett, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Levi Davis, was born, raised, and educated in Charleston S.C. She is the mother of five children. After retiring from the Board Of Education in New York City in 1998, she relocated to Charleston, and became a member of Union Baptist Church in North Charleston under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Elden Heyward.
She is now serving as an associate minister of Union Baptist Church, as well as in the following ministries: Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Adult Vacation Bible School Teacher, Senior Choir, and Women's Outreach Ministry. She is attending the Morris College Extension Program.
